Yes. Our agents work from your intake script and questionnaire — capturing the incident facts, dates, parties, and contact details your attorneys need, plus the information required for a conflict check. They qualify and route genuine matters and screen out the calls that would otherwise consume attorney time.
Never. Agents are trained to gather information, schedule consultations, and route calls — and to explicitly decline any request for legal advice or opinion. That boundary is scripted, monitored in QA, and reinforced in coaching.
Agents are background-checked, confidentiality-trained, and work in secured environments with access controls and call monitoring. Sensitive matter details stay inside the systems you authorize.
Yes. Many firms use us purely as after-hours and weekend overflow, with their in-house staff handling business hours. We also run full 24/7/365 coverage where the caseload justifies it.
A legal answering service takes a message and passes it on. Legal intake outsourcing goes further: agents work through your firm's screening questions for each practice area, record the facts your attorneys need to evaluate the matter, gather the names required for a conflict check, and book a consultation or route the caller according to your criteria. The result is a completed intake record in your system, not a callback slip. Many firms use both modes, with full intake for practice areas that depend on new matters and simple message taking for existing clients, opposing counsel, courts and vendors.
The usual signs are missed calls during court and client meetings, leads from advertising that arrive when no one is free to answer, paralegals pulled away from billable work to cover phones, or a campaign that produces more calls than staff can return promptly. Outsourcing is a weaker fit when new matters come almost entirely through referrals who expect to speak with a specific attorney, when screening a matter requires legal judgment from the first question, or when call volume is low and predictable. Some firms start with a single practice area to test the fit before extending it to the rest.
Agents enter intakes wherever you want them to land. For many firms that is the intake form or lead record in their own practice management system, such as Clio or a similar platform, with a role limited to creating new intakes and viewing calendars. Others prefer a secure web form that feeds their system. Agents book consultations against the availability rules you set, such as which attorney takes which case type and how much notice is needed. They do not need access to existing matter files to do intake. Logins are named, permissions are minimal, and both are defined during scoping.
Judge it on the intake records your attorneys receive. Review a sample for completeness, accuracy of dates and names, and correct use of your screening criteria, and listen to recordings for tone and for the no-legal-advice boundary. Ask how urgent calls are handled, such as someone in custody or a caller facing a deadline today, and who is reached when that happens. Track how many qualified callers booked a consultation. Remember that professional conduct rules make lawyers responsible for supervising nonlawyer assistance, so build a regular review of scripts and calls into the engagement and confirm the details with your ethics counsel.
